Our 7th growing season has begun!

This year we are focused on community building and engagement.

We will be accepting donations through the season of:

*Lightly used garden tools (shovels, rakes, pitchforks, hand tools, wheelbarrows, buckets)

*Clear 4 Litre Water or Milk jugs  and 1 Litre yogurt containers for winter sowing and plant pots

*Gardening reference  and resource books for new gardeners

*Seeding supplies: 6 inch pots, 1/2 gallon pots, 1 gallon pots, trays (with or without lids) and potting soil


Food Forest Opening

Join us for our Spring Opening, Permablitz and Knowledge Share Sunday May 24th 11am-1pm.

We will be moving mulch, amending soil, weeding and pruning. Mentors will be on hand for guidance, support and tips. Please bring any tools, wheelbarrows and work gloves. 

There will be some activities for the kids but no childcare. Light refreshments will be provided, all ages and abilities are welcome.


Plant Sale

Our annual plant sale is set for Sunday May 31st 10-12pm (or until sold out) at the Scotsburn Firehall.

Annuals and Perennials available- focused on edible, medicinal and pollinator friendly, permaculture plants.

Prices will be 2/$5 or $5 each with a fe larger plants at higher costs. Cash and e-transfer accepted.

If you'd like to donate plants we will be accepting community donations May 31st from 8-10am at the firehall, or arrange drop off before by emailing [email protected]

This year we have Cookies for sale from Sweet Spot Bakery - local youth Lilah and Alex.

Pictou and Area Garden Club Plant Sale - Saturday May 23rd starting at 9am at the Kinsmen building -231 Patterson St. Pictou

Community Events

Leroy Stagger and His Trio - May 13th 7-10pm 

Leeroy Stagger and His Trio (Ryland Moranz and Tyler Lieb) roll into Pictou County for an intimate evening of Stories and songs from his new album Pilgrimage, Produced with Joel Plaskett, out on Cordova Records.

Supporting Leeroy will be The Rural Family Band. Opening band is the rural roads family band From Pictou County. Katie, Matt, Bruce and Heather.

Permaculture in Practice - May 16th and 17th 

Hands-on Skill Building & Homestead & Food Forest Tours, May 16 & 17.
This will be a fun-filled weekend, including inspiring permaculture site tours and practical, hands-on skill building. We will be based at Backyard Farm and Forge, a permaculture homestead in Pictou County and home of Raina McDonald and Ruben Irons. Raina will lead the weekend & springtime activities, including bed prep, planting, guild installation, composting, and much more. Along with hands-on activities at Back Road Farm & Forge, we will be taking site tours of Scotsburn Community Food Forest and 10 Folk Farm.

Pictou County Climate Summit - May 29th 9am -3pm

10 Tables. One Coordinated Conversation.

A one-day, facilitated working session that brings together people from across the region to explore how the environment, community, and local economy intersect, and where collective action can drive progress.

This session is designed to strengthen relationships across cross-sector networks, including community members, organizations, government staff and leaders, and businesses. Together, we will identify existing initiatives that are making a difference locally, surface shared priorities, and discover ways to collaborate to move initiatives forward.
